Shannon Martin gets Manitoba Tory nod in Morris byelection
Manitoba Opposition party selects candidate for Morris constituency
Manitoba's Opposition party has picked its candidate for an upcoming byelection in the Morris constituency south of Winnipeg.
Shannon Martin won the Progressive Conservative nomination unopposed.
Martin is a former Tory researcher and later served as Manitoba director of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.
The Morris constituency has been held by the Tories since 1966 — the party captured 73 per cent of the vote in the 2011 election.
The seat has been vacant since Mavis Taillieu resigned in January.
Premier Greg Selinger has yet to set a date for the byelection, which could be held as late as January.
