RCMP in southwestern Manitoba are investigating a sexual assault that took place just outside Brandon this morning.
Police say they received a call just before 7 a.m. Tuesday, after a motorist had been flagged down by a woman needing help on a rural road about five kilometres west of the city.
The 26-year-old woman from Brandon had "obvious injuries and showed indications of being sexually assaulted," police said in a news release.
The woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Brandon RCMP are investigating the incident with the help of the RCMP's forensic identification section. Police say the initial investigation indicates the assault happened in an "open rural space."
