School locked down over gun call
At least one Winnipeg school was locked down Thursday morning as police searched for a man possibly armed with a gun.
It happened near a cluster of schools in the Valley Garden-East Kildonan area.
Police would not name the school that was confirmed to have been locked down, but noted it is located on the 200 block of Antrim Road.
The only one on that block is Valley Gardens middle school.
Bertrun E. Glavin elementary school is in the 100 block of Antrim.
Those schools are separated by a park from Kildonan-East Collegiate on Concordia Avenue.
A strong police presence was at all three schools through much of the morning, after the tactical response unit began searching the neighbourhood at about 8:30 a.m.
The lockdown was lifted just before 10:30 a.m. but police remained in the area.
No suspects or weapons were found and it appears the call was unfounded, police said.
No one from the River East-Transcona School Division was available for comment.
