Sarah McLachlan is taking over headlining duties for this summer's Interstellar Rodeo in Winnipeg after Sinead O'Connor pulled out.

McLachlan will open the festival on Aug. 14 and will be joined by band Whitehorse on stage.

According to Six Shooter Records, the recording company behind the festival, Whitehorse's Luke Doucet extended the invitation to play the August show in Winnipeg.

Doucet, a Winnipegger himself, has played as part of McLachlan's touring band before.

This summer marks the first time the Interstellar Rodeo is coming to Winnipeg. The lineup includes Hawksley Workman and Tanya Tagaq, who is also playing at the Brandon Folk, Music and Art Festival this weekend.

O'Connor has cancelled numerous tour stops over the summer, including the Regina Folk Fest and a festival in Edmonton as well, citing exhaustion.
