Safeway workers reach tentative deal with Sobeys
Safeway workers have reached a tentative deal with Sobey's, the company that bought the chain.
The United Food and Commercial Workers' union said the deal was reached Saturday, the day the workers' collective agreement expired. The workers had earlier voted they were ready to strike.
UFCW Local 832 president Jeff Traeger said the deal comes after nine months of negotiations.
He described it as "a solid deal when the retail grocery market is in an absolute state of flux."
A ratification vote takes place March 23.
