RCMP are warning rural Manitoba residents to be careful about who they let in their homes after a number of elderly people were robbed.

RCMP are warning rural Manitoba residents to be careful about who they let in their homes after a number of elderly people were robbed.

Officers in Russell and Shoal Lake have taken numerous reports of purse thefts in Russell, Foxwarren and Silver Creek.

In most cases, a young woman comes to the door and asks to use the washroom. When she is let inside, she steals the elderly woman’s purse and bolts.

RCMP said in two of the incidents women were pushed down and suffered minor injuries.

The victims range in age from 78 to 92 and many live in their own homes.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Russell RCMP at 204-773-3051.
