RCMP discovered a cache of contraband cigarettes after stopping a pickup truck hauling a trailer near Powerview, Man.
Inside the trailer was some 4,900 cartons containing 980,000 contraband cigarettes with an estimated street value of $150,000, police said.
The seizure happened Dec. 20 just after 1 p.m., according to a press release issued Thursday by the RCMP.
The driver of the pickup, a 32-year-old man from Fort Alexander, and the passenger, a 52-year-old man from Winnipeg, are facing charges of possessing contraband tobacco.
They are also facing possible fines of up to $10,000 and tax penalties of $750,000, RCMP said.
The men have been released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court in Winnipeg on March 18, 2013.
