A Manitoba RCMP officer is facing charges after a prisoner was "mishandled" in Flin Flon.

RCMP released the information Thursday, nearly a year after the alleged incident took place.

RCMP said a male prisoner had been "mishandled" by one of their detachment personnel on Aug. 30, 2012. About a week later, Flin Flon RCMP launched an investigation.

Now, Const. Jamie O’Brien is facing multiple charges including assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon.

O’Brien is set to appear in a Flin Flon court on Oct. 3. RCMP said the officer has been suspended with pay while the investigation continues.
