RCMP officers ticketed 19 people using cellphones while driving in Portage la Prairie on Monday, April 7.
Manitoba Public Insurance and the RCMP have joined forces for the month of April to crack down on drivers who still use hand-held electronic devices while at the wheel.
Plain clothes officers walked the streets of Portage la Prairie looking for distracted drivers. Once spotted, a nearby police car was signalled and the drivers were pulled over.
In addition to the 19 cellphone users, police also ticketed those drivers not using seat belts and who didn't stop at red lights or stop signs.
