RCMP have laid second-degree murder charges against a 24-year-old man following the death of a 39-year-old Pelican Narrows man.

RCMP said John James Ballantyne was rushed to hospital in Flin Flon on Feb. 23 with serious injuries. Officers were told he had been in a snowmobile accident 30 kilometres west of Creighton.

The 39-year-old man later died of his injuries, RCMP said.

After an investigation by the RCMP’s major crimes unit and Manitoba’s medical examiner, officers determined Ballantyne was murdered.

Now, Thurston Jack Thomas, 24, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Thomas is expected to appear in provincial court in La Ronge on Friday.
