The power is back on for about 5,300 Manitoba Hydro customers in Winnipeg's West and East Kildonan neighbourhoods who were in the dark for part of Monday night thanks to a pole-top fire.

The outage began at about 5:30 p.m. Monday as a result of the fire at a hydro pole on Semple Avenue.

Manitoba Hydro tweeted at about 9:15 p.m. that electricity has been restored.

It was not the first power outage in the area in recent weeks.

On March 13, about 8,400 customers in North and East Kildonan were without electricity for hours after a car crashed into a pole at Raleigh Street and Roberta Avenue.
