A Winnipeg restaurateur is teaming up with an architect to open Raw: Almond, a pop-up restaurant that winter enthusiasts will soon see on the frozen river trail near The Forks.

A partnership between Mandel Hitzer, chef and owner of Deer + Almond restaurant, and architect Joe Kalturnyk, the temporary restaurant will join a number of warming huts that will appear on the Red and Assiniboine rivers starting Jan. 24.

Raw: Almond will not only offer warmth and shelter to those needing a break from the winter elements, but it will also offer five-course tasting menus prepared by some of the best chefs in the city.
