Police are warning people of the release of a sex offender who they say is a high risk to reoffend.

Fabian Claybren Maytwayashing, 39, will be released Saturday from the Headingley Correctional Institution and is expected to live in Winnipeg.

When he is released he will be under terms of a probation order.

Maytwayashing's past criminal record includes a conviction of sexual assault with a weapon as well as many other criminal offences including assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats and harassing phone calls.

In the sexual assault conviction he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old victim in 2000, and was sentenced to five years on this charge.

Police say he is known to use fake names on social media to contact women who could be potential victims.

Police say women of all ages are at risk of sexual violence and should take precautions.
