Winnipeg police have released the name of a homicide victim whose body was found in a St. Vital apartment building on Friday afternoon.

Keith George McFee, 69, was found dead in a suite in the 200 block of Fernwood Avenue.

Officers were called to the building regarding a sudden death when they found McFee's body.

Police said he was found with upper body injuries and may have been dead in his suite for some time.

Constable Jason Michalyshen said it was too early to tell if the attack was random or if any of the items the man's suite are missing.

"Right now we have no information to support that anyone else [in the building] is in danger in any way, however, if the investigation leads us to make additional notifications to individuals, we certainly will," said Michalyshen.

Police are waiting for autopsy results to determine the cause of death.

McFee was last seen alive on Boxing Day. His family has been contacted.

Police are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact them or to call CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

This is being considered Winnipeg's first homicide of 2014 until the autopsy confirms when McFee died. Police investigated 23 homicides in 2013.
