Winnipeg police believe they have arrested the person responsible for nabbing purses from a number of elderly women.
Police said they were investigating a number of purse snatchings dating back to Sept. 10, many involving older women.
On Sept. 10, an 85-year-old woman was robbed of her purse in the 1200 block of Main Street. A month later on Oct. 14, a 77-year-old woman was robbed of her purse at Aberdeen Avenue and Main Street but a witness was able to chase down the suspect and get her purse back. The next day, a 71-year-old woman was targeted in the 1200 block of Main Street.
On Wednesday, the purse-snatcher struck again, this time hitting a 23-year-old woman. The suspect was unable to get her purse from her though.
On Thursday night, officers were called to help in a robbery of another woman. The suspect had tried to steal her purse, but witnesses in the area chased her down and held her until officers arrived.
Police now believe one 39-year-old Winnipeg woman was responsible for all of the robberies. She has been charged with multiple counts of robbery and robbery with a weapon.
She remains in police custody.
