Police cracking down on road safety
Police in Manitoba are warning the public that they'll be cracking down on driving infractions over the May long weekend.
Police said they will be setting up roadside checkstops to ensure drivers are sober, not speeding and that they and their passengers are using seatbelts.
Winnipeg police are cautioning the public that fatal crashes appear to be up this year.
There were 11 fatal crashes in the city in 2009, but already this year there have been nine, police said.
The extra enforcement measures began on Tuesday and will continue through next Monday, police said.
