PM promotes Chartier to Manitoba Chief Justice
Richard J. Chartier has been promoted to the post of Chief Justice of the Manitoba Court of Appeal.
Chartier replaces Richard Scott who recently retired.
Chartier was appointed to the Court of Appeal in 2006. Before that he served as a judge of the Provincial Court from 1993 to 2006 and developed an expertise in criminal and family litigation.
Also on Friday, Manitoba Court of Queen's Bench judge William J.Burnett was promoted to the appeal court.
And Shane Perlmutter was appointed Associate Chief Justice of the Manitoba Court of Queen's Bench.
The changes to the Manitoba judiciary were announced Friday by the Prime Minister's Office in Ottawa.
