Police are asking Winnipeggers to be extra vigilant when taking calls right now in light of a new phone scam in the city.

The scam goes like this: someone claiming to work for a fake company called C & K Canada calls.

They tell the person on the other end of the line they are calling, with the support of the Winnipeg Police Service, to request donations. They say the money goes to publications involved with tracking down missing kids.

The number 204-192-8457 may appear on call display during the call, police say.

They are warning people not to engage in any conversations with these callers and not to send any money.

The Commercial Crime Unit is helping with the investigation and is urging Manitobans to share details of the scam with friends and family.
