People still not allowed back after Osborne apartment fire
Several pets died in the blaze in south Osborne on Wednesday
No one was injured in a fire in a third-floor apartment suite on Morley Avenue and Osborne Street on Wednesday afternoon, but fire officials said several pets died in the blaze.
Douglas Krohn, who co-owns the Chocolate Zen bakery across the street, saw the blaze from his business.
"It was just billowing, big flames and thick smoke, and then it just became worse and worse and I think it enveloped the whole top floor of the building," he said.
Traffic was diverted down side streets nearby and drivers heading southbound on Osborne were warned to expect major delays. The area has since re-opened.
Fire officials said it was too early to give a damage estimate, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
As of Thursday morning, residents have not yet been allowed back into the building.
