A 45-year-old man is recovering in a Winnipeg hospital after being struck by a taxi cab on Regent Avenue and Stapon Road just after 1 a.m. Monday.

The man was rushed to hospital in critical condition, with serious lower-body injuries, but has since been upgraded to stable.

Police say a 60-year-old man was driving the taxi east on Regent when the collision happened.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed it to contact the Central Traffic Unit at (204) 986-6271.

Eastbound Regent at Stapon was closed for much of the morning rush hour, but it reopened to vehicle and pedestrian traffic shortly before 8:30 a.m.
