A streak of 19 months of warmer-than-normal temperatures has come to an end in Winnipeg.

October was the first colder-than-normal month since March 2011, according to Dave Phillips, Environment Canada's senior climatologist.

"And it was fairly cold, particularly in the afternoons, that's when people noticed it the most — almost 2 ½ degrees colder than normal," he said.

October 2012 was also wetter than normal, with five days of more than 10 millimeters of rain. Usually, in a month, there's one day like that, Phillips said.

But take heart, he predicts normal temperatures in November.
