Some classes being offered in Winnipeg are helping new parents, who are also newcomers to Canada, adapt to their new home.
Dozens of parents are taking part in pre-natal and post-natal classes as part of the Healthy Start for Mom and Me outreach program at the Knox Centre Church, located in the city's Central Park area.
While the classes are conducted in English, about 18 interpreters are on hand to translate the material into languages the new parents can understand.
Babysitters are available to care for the parents' older children during the classes.
Classes for new parents have been around for years, but in 2004 organizers decided to offer programming specifically for parents who have recently arrived in Canada.
Organizers estimate that between 50 to 70 women and their babies show up for each session.
