Winnipeg got a new city park Saturday morning.
Mountbatten Park is near St. Mary's Road and Forbes Road in St. Vital.
The park is located on the former grounds of Mountbatten School and includes a gravel pathway, benches, a new play structure and a field for playing sports.
St. Vital Coun. Brian Mayes said it is important to provide recreational spaces for families in the city's south end.
"It's important to have some services down here for the people who live south of the city's Perimeter,” he said. “It's great it was an old school site and the city bought it and we fixed it up."
The park is located south of the Perimeter Highway but lies within city limits.
The project was initially started by former councillor for the area and Mayes' predecessor, Gord Steeves.
