Murder charge laid in 2006 Winnipeg shooting
A 32-year-old man is charged with second degree murder in connection to a 2006 shooting in Winnipeg's North End.
Darrel Lavallee was arrested on Friday while in Stony Mountain Institution on a separate incident.
Police allege he is involved in the death of 29-year-old Steven Pelletier, who was forced into a home in the 500 block of Magnus Avenue in October 2006. Pelletier was beaten then shot, police said.
Pelletier died and his body was dumped at a secluded area outside Winnipeg.
In November 2006, Pelletier's family filed a missing persons report to police. An extensive investigation was undertaken and a news release was issued requesting help from the public.
Eventually, the investigation led to Lavallee.
The investigation is continuing because it is believed Pelletier's body was moved with the help of other people, police said.
