MTS customers in parts of Winnipeg are without internet or television service after construction crews accidentally cut a fibre cable this afternoon.
A company spokesperson confirmed that construction crews inadvertently cut the cable while working near Corydon Avenue and Lilac Street just after the noon hour Wednesday.
As a result, MTS high-speed internet and TV customers in the Fort Rouge, River Heights, Fort Garry and Charleswood neighbourhoods lost their service at around 1:30 p.m.
Wireless and most home phone services are not affected, according to the company.
"MTS crews are working as quickly as possible to restore service. We expect television and high-speed internet services to be back up by tomorrow morning," the spokesperson stated in an email.
Customers who called MTS on Wednesday afternoon and evening were greeted with a recorded message.
"To all MTS customers in the Fort Rouge, River Heights, Fort Garry and Charleswood areas: we are experiencing service interruptions affecting TV and internet," the recording states in part.
"This is also causing third-party apps such as Facebook and Yellow Pages on Ultimate TV to be unavailable across all of Winnipeg. Windows Live email is also down."
