Six classic — and free — feature movies will be shown under the stars in downtown Winnipeg next month.

Movies on Memorial is back again and kicking off its summer fare by screening Ghostbusters on its 40-foot inflatable screen on Aug. 6.

Movies will be shown every Tuesday in August, including two double-header dates later in the month.

The movie lineup includes:

  • Aug. 6: Ghostbusters
  • Aug. 13: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
  • Aug. 20: Planes, Trains and Automobiles / The Great Outdoors
  • Aug. 27: Pretty in Pink / The Breakfast Club

"What better way to spend an evening downtown than with friends and family on a blanket watching a great film and enjoying live entertainment?" Stefano Grande, executive director of the Downtown BIZ, stated in a news release.

"And with the beautiful backdrop of the Legislative building and the Golden Boy, it doesn’t get any better than that."

Pre-movie activities include costume and dance contests, live entertainment, and more.

Activities start at 7 p.m., followed by each movie screening before dusk.

Concessions will also be set up to provide something for people to munch on during the shows.
