A Windsor, Ont., man who has been missing for several weeks, and whose Jeep was recently found in Winnipeg, is now wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for sexual assault.

Brandon Wheeler, 30, was last seen on April 15 in the Windsor area, and was reported missing the next day when he didn't show up for work. At the time, concerns were raised that he may be under distress.

Wheeler was driving a green 2010 Jeep Wrangler, which was located in Winnipeg about two weeks later with its licence plate and vehicle identification number (VIN) removed, according to police.

"What has transpired is that Windsor police became involved in a parallel criminal investigation involving Mr. Wheeler, and what I can tell you is that today, the status of Mr. Wheeler has been changed from missing to wanted," Sgt. Matt D'Asti of the Windsor Police Service said Wednesday.

A nationwide warrant has been issued for Wheeler's arrest on a count of sexual assault. D'Asti did not release any details about the sexual assault investigation.

The Winnipeg Police Service told CBC News last week that the Jeep was towed away from a hotel in the Wellington Avenue area and declared as abandoned property around April 29.

Literature about hostels in Canada was found inside the vehicle, according to Windsor police.

"Winnipeg police are working with the Windsor Police Service in trying to locate Mr. Wheeler," D'Asti said.

"In this stage in the investigation we are just asking anybody, either locally or nationally … knows the whereabouts of Mr. Wheeler to notify either your local police service or if it's here in Windsor, our major crime branch."

Wheeler is described as being six feet four inches tall with a skinny muscular build, short brown hair, hazel eyes and pierced ears.

He has a tattoo on his right arm that says, "My generation live forever," according to police. He usually wears a dark leather jacket, T-shirt, jeans and glasses.
