Medical plane grounded after break-in on remote First Nation

A remote northern Manitoba First Nation is temporarily without its medical evacuation plane after it was broken into and vandalized.

A remote northern Manitoba First Nation is temporarily without its medical evacuation plane after it was broken into and vandalized.

The damage as discovered Wednesday morning, and RCMP were called to investigate.

The medical evacuation plane was parked at an airplane hangar when someone broke in and stole several emergency bags. They also set off a fire extinguisher inside the plane, RCMP said.

The emergency bags had medication in them that could cause illness, according to RCMP.

Now, the plane has to remain on the ground until it can be cleaned and mechanically inspected.
