A semi-trailer driver is in custody after RCMP seized at least 62 kilograms of marijuana from his truck on the Trans-Canada Highway in south-central Manitoba on Monday.

Officers pulled over the semi on the highway near Portage la Prairie, Man., just after 2 a.m. CT on Monday and found 137 pounds of marijuana — or just over 62 kilograms — inside the vehicle, RCMP stated in a news release.

The male driver, described by police as being from the Maritimes, was taken into custody and has charges pending against him.

The semi was taken to Winnipeg for a more thorough search, according to RCMP.
