Marcy Markusa: Happy Holidays to all
I'm getting ready to leave for a week off and just wanted to say Happy Holidays to everyone! So here goes:
To the carol criers: I understand. I too will be trying to keep it together during Grown-Up Christmas list and Do They Know It's Christmas.
To the excessive gift givers: Take heart, we know that you just can't bring yourself to draw names.
To the cynics: May you evolve into the crusty relative who is loved for your ability to help us stop crying about the carols.
To the lonely: May you know that there are places and people to reach out to in our community that
are ready and waiting to reach back.
To those whose holidays have passed (Diwali, Eid, Hanukkah and more): May statutory holidays be in your future.
To those working every day of the year (police officers, firefighters, health care workers and more): Thank you.
To the cooks: We love you for all of your oven burns and apron stains, your timing mishaps and lumpy potatoes, and if anyone dares to complain, just send them my way.
To the traditionalists: You are the fabric of our diverse province. Whether you're eating a massive meal at 2 a.m. after midnight mass in St. Boniface, covering your entire Italian dining table with a nativity scene, eating meatless dishes with your Ukrainian friends, singing in Tagalog or Cree, love it! Teach it! Share it!
To the travellers: Good luck and be safe. Call Trevor if you need to: 204-788-3093.
And finally to the kids: Sing, dance, spin, smile and teach the rest of us to be jolly with abandon. May you remind us that joy costs nothing and means everything.
All the best everyone! May you find the peaceful place where your good times reside.
