The Manitoba government has seized 10 horses from their owner in the Rural Municipality of Lakeview, northwest of Winnipeg.

Officials from the province's chief veterinary office said the animals were seized on Monday over concerns for their health and well-being.

The province is now caring for the animals, and officials said the owner will have seven days to appeal the seizure.

The horses will remain in the care of the province at least until Jan. 21.

The seizure was made under Manitoba's Animal Care Act. Anyone with information about an animal in danger is asked to contact the province at (204) 945-8000.
