Provincial officials are still keeping a close eye on a forest fire between Creighton, Sask. and Flin Flon, Man. that has already burned 80 hectares.

Manitoba Conservation said the fire is just outside Flin Flon and is not affecting people or homes.

From her highrise, Laurel Mackie could see flames shooting out of the trees 30-meters into the air.

She said her big concern was the heavy winds.

“The winds were really high, so we were quite concerned, because we could see it going fast,” said Mackie. “My first thought was I don't have a full tank of gas."

Water bombers from Saskatchewan have been fighting the fire since Saturday along with ground crews from both Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

The province may send more resources based on the ongoing assessment.

No property has been destroyed and no evacuations have occurred at this time.
