Manitoba businessman charged in alleged insurance fraud
A Manitoba business owner is accused of making bogus theft claims to profit from insurance claims.
RCMP say the owner of a construction company in Falcon Lake, east of Winnipeg, reported in June that a large amount of equipment worth about $500,000 had been stolen.
Several items were recovered, but police say they found many of them were never taken.
Further checks showed that reported thefts of a pickup truck and a hot tub between September 2010 and last December never occurred.
The man, a resident of Oakbank, Man., is facing three charges of fraud over $5,000 and three counts of public mischief.
He will appear in a Steinbach courtroom on Oct. 10.
