Manitoba barn blaze kills 7,500 hogs
A fire that began Wednesday morning at a hog barn near Zhoda, Man., has killed about 7,500 hogs.
Firefighters from nearby Vita were at the blaze by 6:30 a.m. CT, said J.C. Normandeau, Labroquerie's deputy fire chief.
The scene continued to smoulder well into the noon hour.
The fire took place at Four Pines Farms, a hog-finishing operation. Damage is estimed to be between $2 million and $3 million.
Both RCMP and the provincial fire commissioner's office are investigating.
Zhoda is about 20 minutes south of Steinbach on Highway 12.
