A 30-year-old man has been charged after police say he tried to cut into a bank machine with a blow torch.

Someone called police shortly before 3 a.m. Monday after seeing someone using the torch on an ATM in the 100 block of St Anne’s Road.

Officers arrived to find the man still working at it and he was arrested without incident.

The man has also been linked to an early-morning incident on June 15 in the 600 block of Kildare Avenue. That time, a suspect tried to break into the back of an ATM but was chased off by the machine's alarm system.

The man has been charged with breaking and entering and failing to comply with a probation order.

He has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
