Winnipeg police are investigating the city's 39th homicide of the year after a man was shot early Saturday morning.

Police were called to a residence on the 600 block of Selkirk Avenue just after 5 a.m. CT.

An injured man and an injured woman were located inside the house, which had about a dozen people inside.

The man, Michael Warren Sinclair, was transferred to hospital in critical condition but later died of his injuries.

The woman is in stable condition.

Police say the homicide unit is investigating and the many witnesses are being interviewed. Part of the investigation will be to determine why so many people were in the home at that time.

This is a record year for homicides in Winnipeg, breaking the previous high of 34 set in 2004.
