Man's death ruled Winnipeg's 1st homicide of year

A 24-year-old man has become Winnipeg's first homicide victim of 2014.

Justin Desmarais' body was found in a rooming house in the 200 block of Andrews Street at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The exact cause of death has not been confirmed, police said, noting an autopsy is pending.

"At this early stage of the investigation, it is believed that the deceased was involved in an altercation within the residence," a news release from the police service stated.

Homicide investigators continue to interview witnesses.
