Man jumps from downtown Winnipeg highrise to avoid arrest
A man is in hospital after jumping from a ninth-floor Winnipeg apartment window to avoid police.
Four men were being arrested when a fifth man jumped out a window and landed on the top of a parkade.
A man in the building next door heard the commotion.
“I happened to go and look out the window,” he said. “I saw a bunch of flash lights and cops all over the place, looking on the ground in between the cars.
"As a result of that attempt to flee from officers … he fell from a significant height and unfortunately sustained some pretty serious injuries," Michalyshen told reporters on Monday.
"We're making every effort to identify who this individual is."
The man is currently listed in stable condition in hospital.
Police seized several guns, ammunition, crack cocaine and cash during the search.
All five men, between the ages of 18 and 26, are facing numerous drug and weapons charges.
