A 71-year-old man is dead following a crash on McPhillips Street at Jarvis Avenue, Winnipeg police say.

The collision happened around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday and involved two vehicles, a Buick Regal and a Honda Civic, which police say was stolen.

A 22-year-old woman allegedly stole the Honda Civic around Sherbrook Street and Ross Avenue around 1:10 a.m.

Police say she drove it southbound down McPhillIps, sideswiping a car driven by a man, who was not hurt.

Police say she continued down McPhillips and struck the Buick Regal, which was eastbound on Jarvis, trying to turn north onto McPhillips.

The man and woman were both transported to hospital in critical condition, and the man died.

Police say alcohol and speed are factors in the crash, but no arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6271 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
