A 20-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with more than 30 counts of break and enter in connection to a 12-month robbery spree across the city.

The break-ins, targeting apartments, began March 12, 2013 and ended with the suspect's arrest on March 19, 2014, at an apartment block in the 300 block of Poplar Avenue.

During the break-in spree, the suspect stole cash, electronics and other items of value. In total, damage and stolen property exceeds $80,000, police said.

The 20-year-old man was arrested after his suspicious behaviour prompted the caretaker and another man to confront him, police said.

The suspect assaulted one of the men but they were able to hold him until police arrived.

Following the arrest, police searched a home in the 100 block of Lynn Lake Drive, where some of the stolen property was located.

The man is charged with:

  • 31 counts of break enter and theft
  • 3 counts of break and enter with intent
  • Assault
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Numerous weapons-related offences

He has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
