A man and teenage boy are safe and sound after being lost in snowy woods east of Winnipeg for 10 hours.

The RCMP were alerted that a 911 call came from the Rural Municipality of Reynolds at about 2 p.m. on Sunday.

RCMP spokesman Cpl. Miles Hiebert said the search and rescue crew first found a vehicle and then located the 43-year-old man and 13-year-old boy in the woods not far away at about 12:30 a.m. Monday.

"They had found sort of a sheltered spot, apparently, that they finally decided to hunker down and wait for help," he said.

"As always that's what we always recommend. Anytime you do get disoriented or lost, if there's help on the way the best thing is just to stay put till they find you."
