The usual aroma surrounding the Loveday mushroom farm in Winnipeg's St. Boniface neighbourhood took on a smoky scent on Monday morning.

Fire crews were called to the farm on Mission Street, just off Archibald Street, around 2 a.m.

The fire started in a refrigerated truck parked in an enclosed loading bay, according to fire department officials.

The fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries.

Company owner Burton Loveday said the impact from the fire will be relatively minimal, impacting one day's shipment.

He said the fire was contained to the truck and the shipping bay where it happened so it won't cause a long-term shortage.

He estimates they'll lose 20,000 to 30,000 pounds of mushrooms, which is approximately what they ship out daily, supplying stores from Thunder Bay to Alberta.
