Lauren Marantz is giving part of her liver to a family member that suffers from bilary atresia, which causes damage to the liver due to the destruction of bile ducts.

She said without a transplant, the child could die.

The surgery takes place in Toronto in mid-July.

Marantz said she is taking two months off work to recover from the operation.

She estimates she will lose thousands of dollars in pay.

And while the province does reimburse donors up to $5,500, plus the cost of flights, Marantz said that's not enough.

She said there should be more financial support for donors.
