The University of Manitoba hosted an event on Wednesday evening called Who Gets Fed First?, a conversation exploring the ethics of food production.

Building on our 2012 Visionary Conversation The Food We Eat, this conversation aimed to shift the discussion to questions around whether we need to increase production, the role of genetically modified food and the ethics of who gets fed first.

The panellists were:

  • Dr. Digvir Jayas, Vice-President (Research and International) and Distinguished Professor in Biosystems Engineering.
  • Dr. Vaclav Smil, Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources.
  • Dr. Karin Wittenberg, Associate Dean (Research) and Professor Animal Science, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences.
