Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz has officially filed forms in hopes of resolving confusion over which of his homes he calls his "primary residence."

"As of today, July 24, 2014, Sam Katz [has] returned the required form indicating his Scottsdale address is not his primary residence," reads an email sent to CBC News late Thursday from Robert Pizorno, a spokesperson for the Maricopa County Assessor’s Office in Arizona.

"Our records will be updated shortly to reflect this."

The question of Katz's primary residence came up earlier this week when Maricopa County records revealed the mayor had claimed his Arizona property as his primary abode since 2013.

Katz purchased his 4,400-square-foot Scottsdale home from the sister-in-law of property developer Sandy Shindleman in 2012.

The sale price was not disclosed on the title transfer, but Katz has said he paid more than $1 million US for the property.

Files from the Maricopa County Assessor's Office listed the home, worth $934,000 US, as Katz's primary residence as earlier as this week.

Katz’s office said Monday an error must have led to the Scottsdale home being listed as his primary residence.

Katz declared himself a Canadian citizen living in Winnipeg to the property titles company in Arizona when he registered ownership of the Arizona home, a city spokesperson said, adding the mayor does not plan to move there permanently.
