Despite outplaying their opponents for a majority of the second and third periods, the Winnipeg Jets fell to the Montreal Canadiens 3-0 on Tuesday night in front of a sold-out crowd at the MTS Centre.
After allowing two goals in the opening frame, the Jets looked much better in the final two periods but were unable to capitalize on a number of chances in close.
Montreal goaltender Carey Price stopped all 35 shots aimed his way, earning his first shutout of the year and third win in five games.
The Jets' loss drops the team to 3-4-0 while the win improves the Canadiens to 4-2-0.
Montreal would strike first, scoring two minutes into the first period with a goal from Brandon Prust. Sloppy play by the Jets in their defensive zone left Prust open in front where he converted on a rebound off the boards, beating an unsuspecting Ondrej Pavelec to make it 1-0.
Montreal defenceman P.K. Subban added to the lead, beating Pavelec with a one-timer slap shot to go up by two. Subban's goal makes it his fifth point in three games against the Jets, dating back to last season.
With the Jets goalie pulled, Daniel Briere would add a power play goal in the final minute of play, depositing the puck into an empty net.
Pavelec finished the game with 22 saves and defenceman Dustin Byfuglien led all Jets with 28:03 of ice time.
