Winnipeg mayoral hopeful Brian Bowman has officially been endorsed by the owner of the city's NHL franchise.

A statement from Mark Chipman, executive chairman of the board with True North Sports and Entertainment Ltd., was published on Bowman's campaign website on Tuesday.

Chipman and True North own the Winnipeg Jets hockey team.

"Brian Bowman is the breath of fresh air our city needs right now! He's a positive leader with a strong vision to grow our city into the future," Chipman's statement reads in part.

"I know he's 100% for Winnipeg, which is why I am proud to offer my support for his candidacy as Winnipeg's next Mayor. Please join me in supporting Brian Bowman for Winnipeg!"

Bowman is one of nine people vying for the mayor's job in the Oct. 22 civic election.
