Olli Jokinen scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Winnipeg Jets to a 5-2 win over the New York Rangers Monday night at Madison Square Garden.
Jokinen scored with 12:42 in the third period to give the Jets a 3-2 lead, and then added another with 18:06 to put the game away.
The win improves the Jets to 13-12-4 on the year, while the loss drops the rangers to 14-14-0.
The Jets are now 3-1 in their current six-game road trip, rebounding from a 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday.
Ondrej Pavelec made 35 saves in the win and improves his season record to 10-9-3 on the year. Cam Talbot got the start for the Rangers, making 23 saves in the loss.
The Rangers made it 1-0, 2:49 into the period with a goal from Mats Zuccarello, his fourth of the season. Zuccarello tipped in a Ryan McDonagh shot after a Keaton Ellerby turnover in the Jets' zone.
With the Jets in need of a boost, Winnipeg tough guy Anthony Peluso dropped the gloves with the Rangers' Justin Falk with just over three minutes to go in the frame. Peluso landed most of the shots as both exited to the dressing room following five-minute majors for fighting.
The Jets would have a better start to the second period, creating pressure early in the Rangers' zone, but they would go unrewarded.
Their hard work would finally pay off midway through the period as they scored two goals in 1:44 to take a 2-1 lead.
Devin Setoguchi scored his seventh with a wrist shot from the point, beating Rangers netminder Cam Talbot five-hole.
Recent St. John's call-up John Albert made his NHL debut a game to remember after he made good on a partial breakaway to give the Jets a 2-1 lead.
The Rangers evened things up late in the period with a goal from captain Ryan Callahan, who now has seven goals and 12 points in eight career games against the Jets.
Jokinen made it 3-2 for the Jets after stepping into a bounce puck in the slot, beating Talbot for his fifth of the year. He added another with just under two minutes left in the third to give the Jets a two-goal cushion.
