Background: The leader of the Green Party of Manitoba, James Beddome, was born in Brandon on Oct. 2, 1983. Raised on a livestock farm north of Rapid City he has both business and agriculture experience.
Beddome is presently attending the University of Manitoba pursuing his law degree. He previously obtained a double-honours bachelor of arts degree in political science and economics in 2006.
He has worked as a farmhand, operations supervisor at an alfalfa processing plant, and as an administrator for Nesbitt Burns investment firm.
He joined the Green Party of Manitoba in 2006 and soon after became the chair of the economic policy committee.
During his campaign as the Green candidate for the rural division of Minnedosa in 2007, Beddome pushed his clean transportation message by using a bicycle to travel. He hauled a trailer and spent the nights in campsites along the way.
Beddome was elected to a two-year term as the provincial Green Party leader on Nov. 15, 2008.
The Green Party has never won a seat in Manitoba but came closest in Wolseley, in central Winnipeg, in 2007 when its candidate finished a distant second to the NDP.
