Some children from a slum in Paraguay have turned the garbage around their homes into beautiful music.

Cateura is a community of shacks built on a landfill, and the slum is considered among the poorest in South America. It's a place where people who dream of owning their own musical instruments have found the only solution is right under their feet.

Everything from oil drums to recycled wood is collected and transformed into violins and cellos.

And now, members of the Recycled Orchestra are touring their instruments in Manitoba.

They played a sold-out show in Steinbach on Wednesday. The rest of their tour through Manitoba includes:

  • Winkler on May 2 (Winkler Church, 120 Pineview Drive, 7 p.m.)
